The Practicum: Service
For Eternity
We are intentional about leadership preparation
and the practical application of the principles
learned in the classroom. In addition, we
want students to understand and exercise
their gifts and see the impact one person
can have on the world.
That’s why an important part
of the Veritas experience takes place in
the Practicum.
We have the following goals for our students
as they participate in the Practicum:
- Students will learn essential leadership
skills such as honor, integrity, discipline
and maturity;
- Students will be challenged intellectually,
emotionally and spiritually. We value
parental participation and encourage parents
to join us in the Practicum.
- Students will engage in both classroom
and out of class activities that will
provide training and experience in the
development of leadership and management
skills.
- Students will develop tender, compassionate
hearts toward those in need. They will
have experiences in reaching people who
are in need.
- Students will know and exercise their
God-given gifts and experience the difference
one person can make.
The Practicum Program
In the Practicum, one or more of the following
activities will be pursued:
Project Veritas:
In January, students will choose a community
organization with whom to work on a service
project. This project will draw on an area
of interest and will be carefully chosen
to allow students to strengthen their minds,
learn principles of management and leadership,
and gain practical experience in the use
of those principles.
Leadership Lab:
The class will come together in the Practicum
to participate in the Leadership Lab to
work on a leadership skill or activity such
as conflict resolution or effective communication.
An emphasis will be placed on character
development. This is an opportunity for
parents to participate and teach or instruct
in areas of their own particular expertise.
Hands On:
Students will be involved in a number of
hands-on academic, spiritual, service, and
leadership activities. For instance, they
will participate in a minimum of four service
projects together as a class and will be
encouraged to develop leadership skills
as they plan and carry out the projects.
